Patience Moyo, PhD (2017-2018)

Biography

Patience Moyo is former Postdoctoral Fellow with the Center for Pharmaceutical Policy and Prescribing at the University of Pittsburgh Health Policy Institute. She is currently Assistant Professor of Health Services, Policy & Practice at Brown University School of Public Health. She earned her Ph.D in Pharmaceutical Health Services Research from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. Her areas of expertise are in pharmacoepidemiologic analyses of prescription opioid use and related outcomes, and research on prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMPs). Her dissertation, under the mentorship of Dr. Linda Simoni-Wastila, explored the impact of PDMP implementation and PDMP policy variation across states on patterns of opioid utilization among Medicare beneficiaries. Dr. Moyo’s research interests intersect pharmaceutical policy, addiction, and health system strengthening. She has experience in claims-based health outcomes research, policy evaluation, and epidemiologic analysis of substance use and mental health indicators at state and national levels.
